The SOILRES project took part in the 19th Congress of the European Society for Agronomy (ESA 2026),held from 24 to 28 August in Tartu, Estonia, bringing together researchers, practitioners and policymakers to discuss the future of sustainable and resilient agriculture.
As part of the congress programme, Dr. Ahsan Raza, from the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), presented the work “Pan-European assessment of soil organic carbon response to conservation tillage and soil redistribution”, developed within SOILRES Work Package 3 (WP3).
The presentation explored the relationship between tillage practices and soil organic carbon (SOC) at a pan-European scale. In particular, the work examines how Sentinel-2 satellite data can be used to identify post-harvest tillage signals and link them to changes in soil organic carbon dynamics.
The presentation was followed by a constructive discussion, providing an opportunity to exchange views with researchers working on sustainable agricultural systems and soil management.

The ESA Congress addressed a wide range of topics related to the transition towards more sustainable, resilient and resource-efficient agriculture, including sustainable crop production, climate resilience, water management, crop diversity and the links between science, farming practice and agricultural policy.
SOILRES’ participation in the event contributed to sharing project research with the wider agronomy community and fostering scientific exchange on soil management and soil organic carbon dynamics.
