Agrobiodiversity

The variety and variability of plants, animals, and microorganisms that support cropping systems is shaped by the complex interactions between soil, plants, the microbiome, weather, and management practices. SOILRES aims to develop innovative interventions that embrace this dynamic interplay, treating these five components as interconnected actors in resilient farming systems.

Pedo-climatic zone

A pedo-climatic zone is an area defined by the combined influence of soil characteristics (pedo-) and climatic conditions (-climatic). Together, these two factors strongly determine how crops grow, how soils function, and which farming practices are most suitable.

  • Soil properties include texture, structure, fertility, pH, and organic matter.
  • Climate factors include temperature, rainfall, humidity, and seasonal patterns.

By considering both soil and climate together, researchers can better understand the challenges and opportunities for agriculture in each region.
